A Historical Organization Gets a Modern Update
I had the privilege of leading the brand identity design for Black History Long Beach, a community-rooted organization dedicated to preserving and amplifying the stories of Black residents in Long Beach. They were looking for a visual identity that felt powerful yet personal, something that honored heritage while looking toward the future.
The final brand leans heavily into symbolism and storytelling. We developed a logomark inspired by the Sankofa bird, a West African symbol of reflection and growth, subtly shaped by negative space to reveal a house and tree, paying tribute to the local, urban landscape of Long Beach. A bold, contrasting color palette rooted in Pan-African history, paired with handcrafted typography and collage-inspired elements, helped express a sense of legacy, resilience, and celebration. The brand now lives across print and digital materials, and serves as a rallying point for future community events and educational initiatives.
Social Media Promotion
For the event "Reparations: A Solidarity of Purpose," I developed and managed the social media promotion to build momentum and drive community engagement in the weeks leading up to the gathering. Through bold visuals, focused messaging, and a mix of countdown posts, honoree highlights, and behind-the-scenes content, we helped draw a crowd of over 200 attendees. The event featured an awards ceremony, scholarship presentations, and a live band—an unforgettable celebration of purpose, recognition, and community resilience.
Announcement Flyer
The event flyer for “Reparations: A Solidarity of Purpose” served as both a formal announcement and a visual anchor for the gathering. Printed copies were distributed in advance to generate interest and were also displayed prominently at the event to welcome guests and reinforce the sense of collective purpose.
